1.) Powell Library

One of the best places to study at UCLA is undoubtedly the iconic Powell Library. As one of the four original buildings at UCLA, Powell library is an amazing study spot loved by students. It is located at the top of Bruinwalk; when you reach the top of the stairs, it will be the first building to the left. Alternatively, if you take the Janss Steps, it will be the first building to the right, just across from Royce Hall. If you love being in a place that is aesthetically pleasing, this is the place for you. Many people also love Night Powell, which is located on the first floor. It is usually open Monday through Thursday from 10 PM to 8 AM, Sunday from 9 PM to 8 AM, Friday from 6 PM to midnight, and closed on Saturdays.

2.) Charles E. Young Library

The Charles E. Young Research Library is a great place to go alone or with friends. They offer study pods and rooms that you can reserve which are very helpful and useful for collaborative study. If you would rather have a quieter place to study, the upper floors become progressively quieter, making them ideal for focused studying. It can also get quite full during finals week, so finding a seat might be challenging. The library is located on the north side of campus so if you are walking from the Hill, it will be a long walk. If you’re starting at Royce Hall, walk past it and take the first left. If you continue to walk straight you will find the library - you will not be able to miss it!

3.) The Study at Hedrick Hall

If you are looking for a convenient place not far from the Hill and you want to get a snack, The Study at Hedrick Hall is the perfect place. The Wifi here is great and there are plenty of outlets to charge your phone. Their menu is more breakfast and lunch oriented, including salads, pizzas, sandwiches, pastries, and fruit cups. They also have a takeout option if you prefer to not wait in line. It does get very full so you might want to go as soon as they open so you can find a place to sit. As the name suggests, it is located on the Hill in Hedrick Hall, just above the stairs near Covel Commons, Cafe 1919 and the UCLA store. From the top of the stairs, make a right and head up one more flight of stairs.

4.) Study Rooms at the Hill

If you want to make sure you are not being bothered by anyone you can reserve a room on the Hill by yourself or with friends. You can do this in De Neve, Rieber, Hedrick, Sproul and Olympic. Depending on where your building is located, you might want to go to the closest location, but you can access any of these buildings regardless of where you live. Students are only able to reserve these rooms for two hours. These rooms are usually not very full, and if you decide to go in with no reservation, be ready to leave when someone with a reservation arrives. If you’re studying with friends, you can have someone in your group reserve the time slot immediately after yours to extend your study session without any interruptions.
