The Last House exemplifies the adage "Never stop following your dreams." Hailing from Las Vegas, this band is a melting pot of individuals from all backgrounds, striving to follow their passion and share their voices. Their original music blends rock, country, and blues, combining nostalgic sounds with a fresh, modern twist.
With the release of their self-titled debut album, Last House invites listeners into a world of heartfelt storytelling, where the raw emotion of each song is amplified by clear, expressive vocals and the prominent use of percussion. The album's slow tempo adds to its introspective quality, allowing space for listeners to connect with the emotional depth of its lyrics.
My personal favorite on the album, Sister Song, is a heartfelt homage to the unbreakable bond between sisters. The track paints a vivid picture of the shared experiences that shape a sibling relationship, from the simple moments of playing together as children to navigating the complexities of growing up. As I listened, I found myself reflecting on my own relationship with my sister: playing explorers as we delved through bushes, navigating high school together, and journeying through our world together.
What makes the song even more powerful is that the writers' own background brings authenticity and depth to the lyrics. As twin sisters, Rashell Zerbe and Laura Coates, left their small town in West Texas to pursue music, and their journey eventually brought them to Las Vegas as police officers. Their shared experiences make the song even more meaningful, especially for anyone who has a sibling they can count on.
