Before even taking office, President Donald Trump declared that he was going to impose tariffs on foreign countries such as Mexico and Canada.
Today, White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt confirmed that President Trump will hit Mexico, Canada, and China with tariffs.
At the press briefing room, the Press Secretary told the media, “The president will be implementing tomorrow a 25% tariff on Mexico, 25% tariffs on Canada, and a 10% on China.” She noted that was due to the illegal fentanyl that has been distributed throughout the United States, which has resulted in the lives of millions of Americans.
While speaking to an advisory council, Prime Minister Justin Trudeau said that Canada would not “back down” from President Trump’s threats.
Posting on X, he wrote, “No one - on either side of the border - wants to see American tariffs on Canadian goods.”
When speaking to reporters at the Oval Office later on Friday, President Donald Trump acknowledged that the tariffs may cause a short-term disruption. However, the president nevertheless strongly believes that the economy will remain strong.
